Q.
How can I donate?
A. There
are several ways to donate. You can either donate online
(the quickest and most efficient method), or you can donate
in other ways such as over the phone using a credit or debit
card, by post using a cheque or postal order or via bank
transfer.
Q.
Can I donate to a specific country or project?
A.
Yes you can, though our work is most
effective if you allow us to spend your donation where it's
most needed. To donate to a specific country or project,
you can use the How to Spend page when donating online;
when donating over the phone or via post be sure to give
us all the details.
Q.
Is my donation eligible for Gift Aid?
A.
Please see the Gift
Aid FAQ for details.
Q.
Will I receive a receipt?
A.
Yes, we will post you a printed receipt
for your donation, which you should keep for your records.
We are unfortunately unable to issue receipts for donations
made via bank transfer.
Q.
Can I donate clothes, books, my car…?
A.
We are generally unable to accept clothes
or book donations. This is due to the high transportation
costs in transferring them and also the loss of benefit
to the local economy by not acquiring goods locally (something
we always strive to do). In some circumstances we can accept
non-cash donations such as jewellery, cars, business services
etc. Please do contact us to find out more. Donating Online.
Q.
Are online donations secure?
A.
Yes, your online donation is totally
secure. We use the latest 256-bit SSL technology to ensure
all your personal details and card or bank number are encrypted
before being sent -- this ensures they cannot be seen by
third parties. In addition, your credit or debit card donation
is processed securely by WorldPay, a division of the Royal
Bank of Scotland, Europe's second largest bank.
Q.
What is the donation basket?
A. The
donation basket is analogous to the 'shopping cart' concept
used by many online shops. Any donation you make on the
site -- whether a single donation or regular giving -- is
added to your donation basket. When you've finished simply
click Complete Donation to securely provide your personal
and card or bank details. The donation basket gives you
the flexibility to easily donate to various projects, specify
a type for your donation (e.g. zakah or sadaqah) or specify
a dedication. In addition, you can easily combine single
donations with regular gifts and, if you wish, add multiple
items such as olive trees for different family and friends
or sponsor several orphans.
Q.
What is WorldPay?
A.
WorldPay is a payment processing
service that processes your card details (either for single
donations or regular giving via a credit/debit card) on
our behalf. We use WorldPay as they are the world's most
trusted payment processing company and part of Royal Bank
of Scotland, Europe's second largest bank. Entering your
details via WorldPay is quick, secure and easy.
Q.
Which cards do you accept?
A.
For online donations we accept the following
cards: Solo, Switch, MasterCard, Visa, Visa Delta, Visa
Electron, Visa Purchasing and JCB. This includes single
donations and regular giving via a credit/debit card. Please
note that whilst we are unfortunately not able to accept
American Express for online donations you can donate using
this card over the phone.
Regular
Giving
Q.
What is the benefit of regular giving?
A.
Although we are most well known for our
emergency relief work in the aftermath of disasters, most
of Aslamiya Welfare Trust' projects are focused on helping
the poor and needy in the long term through education, health,
community development and empowerment. Raising awareness
and funding this work is difficult. Your regular gift, however
small, will help us to support this work. Whether it's a
specific donation such as an orphan or teacher sponsorship,
or an open gift that allows us to fund valuable work such
as tackling curable blindness, your regular gift really
does make a difference.
Q.
How can I give regularly?
A.
There are several ways. You can either
set up a
regular donation online
(the quickest and most efficient method), or you can set
up a donation in other ways such as over the phone or by
post.
Q.
What do I need to set up a regular donation?
A.
There are two ways to give regularly:
· Via Standing Order (this is the preferred and most cost
effective method for us, but requires a UK bank account).
· By credit or debit card to be billed monthly (available
to UK and non-UK donors). When you complete your donation
you will be asked to choose your preferred option.
Q.
Can I amend or cancel my regular donation?
A. Yes,
you can. If you would like to amend or cancel your regular
donation you can do so at any time simply by contacting
us and letting us know.
Q.
My bank details are changing, what should I do?
A.
Please contact us as soon as possible with the amended details
so we can update our records and ensure your regular donation
continues to reach the poor and needy.
Q.
My credit/debit card is due to expire, what should I do?
A. If
you give a regular donation using a credit or debit card
and it is due to expire (or has expired) you should receive
an email from WorldPay regarding your FuturePay Agreement
(it will be sent to the address you used when providing
your details). To update your card details, so as to continue
with your regular gift, please visit WorldPay Shopper Help.
To login you will need the username and password obtained
when you initially provided your details. If you cannot
remember your username and/or password please contact us
for your FuturePay Agreement ID, which will then enable
you to recover these details via the Forgotten your password?
link on the WorldPay site.

Gift
Aid
Q.
What is Gift Aid?
A.
Gift Aid is a government scheme that
allows you to increase the value of your donation by 28%
at no extra cost to you. So, for every £10 you donate Aslamiya
Welfare Trust is able to claim back £2.82, making your donation
worth £12.82.
Q.
Where does Gift Aid money come from?
A.
Gift Aid is a Government scheme that
allows registered charities such as Aslamiya Welfare Trust
to claim back tax you've paid to the UK Government. The
Gift Aid claimed on your donation is thus tax you've paid
which the Government allows us to reclaim.
Q.
How much does it cost?
A.
Gift Aid costs you nothing. Money is
reclaimed from tax you've paid.
Q.
Is there a minimum donation for Gift Aid to apply?
A.
No, Gift Aid can be applied to all donations,
large or small, provided your tax contributions for the
year are at least equal the amount reclaimed.
Q.
How do I register for Gift Aid?
A.
To allow us to claim Gift Aid you need
only complete a Gift Aid Declaration once and we then will
reclaim Gift Aid until you instruct us otherwise. A Gift
Aid Declaration Form which you can print and post or fax
can be found
here.
Alternatively you can fill in a declaration as you complete
your online donation or by calling us.
Q.
How often do I need to register?
A.
You need only register once. From the
time we receive a
Gift
Aid Declaration we will claim Gift Aid on all your subsequent
donations.
Q.
Am I eligible for Gift Aid?
A. We
are able to claim Gift Aid on your donations if you are
a UK tax payer and have paid income or capital gains tax
at least equal to the amount we reclaim.
Q.
How do I know if I'm a UK tax payer?
A.
You are a UK tax payer if any of the
following apply:
Tax is taken from your wages or salary before you receive
it (see your payslip).
You have taxable savings or income from investments such
as stocks and shares or the sale of property.
You are required to complete a Self Assessment form each
year.
If in doubt please contact us for further details.
Q.
What if I don't pay tax?
A.
In this case we are unfortunately unable
to claim Gift Aid on your donation. If however your situation
changes in the future please inform us.
Q.
What if I stop paying tax?
A.
Please inform us so we can stop claiming
Gift Aid on your donations.
Q.
What if I'm a lower rate tax payer?
A. Even
if you are a lower rate tax payer we can still claim Gift
Aid at 28% on your donations, provided you pay tax at least
equal to the amount reclaimed.
Q.
What if I'm a higher rate tax payer?
A.
In this case we can still initially
only claim back 28% of your donation as Gift Aid. However,
you can ensure Aslamiya Welfare Trust receives back the
difference between this and the higher rate of tax by quoting
code GAK92HG on your Self Assessment form.
Q.
Which types of donations are eligible for Gift Aid?
A.
All donations to Aslamiya Welfare Trust
including sadaqah and zakat, single donations and regular
giving donations are eligible for Gift Aid if you are a
UK tax payer.
Q.
Why is Gift Aid 28%?
A.
A basic rate tax payer in the UK pays
22% of their salary in tax. So for every £100 earnt £78
is received net. The UK Government allows us to claim back
the tax paid on income equal to the value of the donation.
Therefore if you donate £78, we will be able to claim back
£78 × 0.282 = £22. The 0.282 or 28% is simply 22 / 78, where
22 arises from the 22% basic rate.
Q.
Can I change my mind?
A. Yes
you can. If at any time you wish us to stop claiming Gift
Aid on your donations simply contact us and we will amend
our records.
Q.
I'm not a UK resident, can I claim Gift Aid?
A.
Unfortunately not. The Gift Aid scheme is only available
to UK tax payers.
Q.
Where can I find out more?
A.
You can find out more about Gift Aid
on the HM Revenue
and Customs website.
